It’s an exhilarating feeling when the “It’s a match!” screen appears on Bumble. You feel a tingling rush through your chest that is capped off with an uncontrollable smirk and a heavy, burning heart in anticipation of what comes next. And without a doubt Morganne and I could not have been more of a perfect match. In her about me section she wrote “My favorite food group is wine.” and I cleverly wrote “aspiring stay-at-home dad.” At this point cupid didn’t have to do anything — it was a done deal.
However, on Bumble, women make the first move; and this is normally a good thing for guys like me. Likely, I would of tried to come up with something creative and original as my introduction line. In reality that attempt would of landed somewhere between a dad joke and an internal facepalm emoji. So thankfully Morganne held all the power (still does) and all I had to do was wait for her clever ice-breaking introduction line.
On Bumble, not only do women always make the first move, if they don’t initiate a conversation within 24 hours, the connection expires. So while the world fell away, draining of all color, there I stood in the moonlight hoping for her to throw me a bone. If you ask Morganne, she will tell you she didn’t have any intention of kicking things off. Little did I know, there was one photo in my profile that was a bit self-contrived and “douchey”. This singular photo, a photo that my mother loves, convinced Morganne the best action was no action. So for 24 hours I watched all my hopes and dreams of this beautiful wine-loving girl to ever say “Hey” slowly fade away.
Luckily for me, Bumble believes in second chances. As time is about to expire, the guy can extend the connection by clicking on the woman’s profile and selecting the option to extend the match for an additional 24 hours. However, you can only extend one match per day and you can’t extend the same match more than once. Knowing that we were destined to be the couple that could rival Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, I immediately extended the connection and put the ball back in her court. That extension was all it took. Morganne was now ever so slightly convinced that I was worth a “Heyyy” — which is totally better than “Hey”.
Fast forward to August 26th, 2018, Morganne said “yes” to a life-time of dad jokes. We were fortunate to have a few family members there for the proposal and Los ébano near by to capture it all. Currently, we live together in San Jose, CA with our amazing dog, Luna and our two eclectic cats, Arrow and Daisy.
